  • Job Description

    At The Black Salt, we align with the occult community through various events and products including speciality craft cocktails paired with ritual processes. We are looking for a talented, experienced, and knowledgeable person that has a passion for cocktail culture. We pride ourselves on giving clients an upscale experience while being inclusive. Attentiveness and grace is as important as a drive to learn and create new things.

    You must have recent previous work experience in high end bartending and service industry. The right candidate will be able to contribute ideas and receive recognition for creating cocktails, ritual spell processes, or helping with special event organization. The ability to multitask, perform under pressure while (at times) serving high volume, and understand the nuances of spell rituals and the metaphysical purposes of ingredients is integral to the position.

    Responsibilities

    • Excellent mixology skills for speciality craft cocktails.

    • High standard for cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance.

    • Firm understanding of guest and alcohol safety.

    • Knowledgeable and capable of precisely executing specialty craft drink menu. Jigger Pouring. Menu rotates on a monthly basis - ability to change and adapt.

    • Confident knife skills for preparing garnishes.

    • In-depth product knowledge, including ritual processes, flavor profiles, ingredient properties, and prices.

    • Enthusiastically demonstrate and recommend items.

    • Ability to explain ritual processes and how they work.

    • Ability to make pour over coffee, teas, and nonalcoholic beverages. (will train)

    • Have personable interactions with guests that provide them with highly inclusive experience. Sharing information and catering to any needs.

    • Handle customer complaints in a calm and professional manner while working to resolve any issues.

    • Communicate and take direction from owner and management.

    • Consistently and genuinely help shape a positive environment for staff and guests.

    • Quickly and accurately ring in orders on POS system, process payments, maintain accurate drawer amount. Handheld card readers.

    • Track, stock, and maintain inventory of all products.

    • Cleaning bar, restroom, and floor areas during service by washing glassware, bussing and sanitizing as needed.

    • Quickly and thoroughly complete opening and closing duties each shift.

    • Follow all policies and processes of the company.

    • Current certification in an alcohol safety such as TIPS training.

    Requirements

    • Proficiency with Square software and hardware (will train upon hiring)

    • Ability to remain calm in chaotic and busy environment, or ability to remain busy during slow shifts.

    • Ability to work alone for long periods of time and late at night.

    • Must be able to carry 50 lbs up and down stairs. Stand on feet for long periods of time.

  • Welcome to The Black Salt where witchcraft meets craft cocktails. We are looking for a critical support person to join our team as barback. This is the perfect job for experienced bartenders who love the craft but are looking to find more meaning in their work OR aspiring bartenders who want to learn about intentional use of ingredients as well as inventory management skills.

    As a member of our team, you will be learning not just bar related information, but metaphysical and ritual processes as well. This is an opportunity to expand your knowledge through the information we provide and through guest interactions. Understanding holistic approaches to consciousness is at the core of the brand and the services we provide.

    Responsibilities

    • Supporting bar team with diligent and fastidious management of operations.

    • Warmly greeting and engaging with guests while prioritizing work responsibilities.

    • Smoothly handling intricate glassware and bar tools through washing, polishing, and stocking.

    • Consciously anticipating needs as they arise and jumping ahead to make sure they are met seamlessly to ensure smooth service.

    • Ethical responsibility towards products to assure they are properly used - not wasted. Dating, labeling, following guidelines to rotate and store products properly to ensure their longevity and shelf life through service.

    • Stocking: Syrups, Juices, Tea, Coffee, Garnishes, Liquor, Bottled and Canned Beverages, Food (bar snacks), Candles, Water, Ice, and anything else relative to the current menu.

    • Tracking inventory: notifying management well in advance when stock is low so backup can be provided.

    • Cutting garnishes using knives. Knowing how to sharpen and use a knife for cutting intricate garnishes.

    • Learning POS system to assist with closing checks or ringing in items.

    • Learning the menu including ritual processes and metaphysical properties of ingredients so to answer guests questions. Graciously informing guests that bartender will answer questions in depth if you do not have proper information to assist.

    • Serving water to guests when they arrive. Running food or beverages to tables for bartenders when necessary.

    • Clearing tables during service and after service. Cleaning tables and chairs thoroughly. Resetting tables for next seating.

    • Monitoring and retrieving cocktail alters and spell kits when guest is done with their use.

    • Resetting spell kits: removing used items, cleaning altars, resetting tools as guided in presentable arrangement.

    • Assisting bartenders with setting up and breaking down the bar.

    • Impeccable standard for cleanliness. Assisting with all closing duties including but not limited to cleaning floors and bathrooms, wiping down all surfaces, taking out trash and recycling, cleaning out refrigerators, any any other required tasks.

    Skills and Experience

    • At least 3 years recent experience at a high volume or craft cocktail bar in a similar position.

    • Ability to work in tight spaces, smoothly navigating fast moving gestures, deferring space to bartenders or guests while maintaining course to perform duties (like dancing.)

    • Ability to lift 40 lbs and carry up and down stairs.

    • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.

    • Time management and punctuality. (Strict late and no-show policy)

    • Clear and kind communication skills.

    • Highly organized. Great memory. Ability to make lists. Clearly follow directions.

    • Clean, neat appearance and willingness to follow dress code.

    • Weekend (Friday and Saturday) and late night availability (6 pm - 3 am) is required to qualify for the position.

  • Welcome to The Black Salt where witchcraft meets craft cocktails. We are looking to fill a key roll, reservationist door person. As a crucial facilitator of guest relations, this position is responsible for catering a wonderful experience before, during, and after service.

    This position is responsible for assisting with overseeing seating in the bar on Friday and Saturday. The roll requires previous experience in hospitality and a flexible schedule. Please read the full description below before submitting your application.

    Reservations and Door Responsibilities

    • Ensure that all guests are quickly and politely greeted upon arrival and thank them when they leave. Interact with guests in a professional, warm and courteous manner and develop guest relationships.

    • Checking ID’s to assure only guests of 21 years of age enter the business.

    • Make sure that phones are answered quickly and politely without any sign of hurriedness.

    • Navigate reservations platform and client database proficiently.

    • Confirm, cancel or modify reservations based on the ability for the bar to provide accommodations.

    • Monitor all waiting times, manage wait lists, and minimize guests waiting in the foyer.

    • Exhibit knowledge of The Black Salt’s menu and concept, reservations policies, operating hours, and other facts about the bar and be able to address common guest inquiries.

    • Supervise the seating plan so that guests are seated in a way that accommodates their needs and party size, and duration of visit.

    • Notify bartenders of seatings and provide prior notice of incoming large parties.

    • Address any problems that arise dealing with reservations and the front desk department.

    • During busy times, notify guests of duration limits to maximize revenue (ordering drinks) while also turning over tables on schedule to honor all reservations.

    • React to dissatisfied guests, taking appropriate action.

    • Collect input from staff concerning any issues that need to be addressed.

    • Manage any door issues that may arise such as preventing banned customers from entry, strongly encouraging overly intoxicated guests to uber providing business uber rides if needed (rare), preventing party busses from entry, managing any disorderly conflicts that may arise in a smooth and professional fashion to prevent disturbances to other guests.

    • Solicit reservations in slow periods through personal contacts, regular guests, etc

    • Delegate specific tasks, such as straightening up the restrooms.

    • Follow the media and keep up-to-date with cultural and social events in the city (DCFC Games in Hamtramck.)

    • Write incident reports for any liability issues including disorderly behavior, injury, or other liabilities to the bar.

    • Maintain clean dining room and restaurant and adhere to all health and safety standards.

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Clear, kind and concise written and verbal communication.

    • Recent experience in the hospitality industry for established businesses.

    • Familiar with Opentable management, or ability to learn.

    • Passion for working with the public. Poised and welcoming demeanor with guests. Ability to be firm yet kind when conflict arises.

    • Willingness and ability to work as part of a cohesive team and to collaborate with team members regardless of role or task.

    • Phone etiquette.

    • Neat and professional appearance.

    • Physical requirements include: ability to handle and carry trays, equipment, or other items up to 40lbs, and to stand, walk up and down stairs, and exert well-paced mobility for extended period of time.

    • Flexible schedule and open availability on weekends to meet business needs.

    • Valid US Drivers License and Own Transportation.
